SONGBIRD: Behind the Scenes with IT model Lark Huska
One of the perks of being a beauty blogger, with a sister that’s a makeup artist, is I get to be on set with amazing creative people, watching them do what they do best. Whatever their respective passions are it never ceases to amaze me how a shoot comes together culminating in a collective effort. Not only is the end result a work of art, but the whole process. It’s inspiring. Over the years of being on set I’ve noticed you can plan out a photoshoot in as much detail as you want, but when you get the creative energies in the room and you can see them using their intuition and drawing from creative references. This was precisely the vibe in the room that added to the dreamy editorial shot for DESIGN SCENE STYLE magazine.
“Lark spent most of her makeup chair time getting serious skin prep, Elena says of Lark’s look, I was going for no makeup makeup. Exfoliation, oils, massaging to stimulate cells, lip care, moisturizing, the works. I wanted her skin to be the main attraction. It wasn’t hard, Lark’s skin is flawless, and a little TLC really made it shine.”
To achieve Lark’s look use First Aid Beauty Radiance Pads in a circular motion to give a gentle exfoliation. Ele followed up with The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil massaging and working with the muscles in the face to lift and sculpt the cheek bones.
I love being on set with Ele because I learn something new each time. I never thought to massage in the oils for a lift. I know I’m supposed to exfoliate, but #lazygirlproblems. I definitely need to pay more attention to my skincare routine after watching Elena. Many people think that makeup solves all problems, but it is just a mask. Skincare is the base on which it stands.
“Waiting ten minutes, I prepped her hair”, Elena said, “using Ouai texturizing hair spray“. “I then continued with Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream to the face. On the lips Charlotte’s Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk and Dior Creme de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm.”
This was accompanied with Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and Cle de Peau Concealer. On the eyes Dior Backstage Eye Prime, Dior Longer Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Trinidad Black. “The brows were easy because Lark’s are killer!”, Ele exclaimed,” I used Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows. Finishing off with a light spritz of Caudalie Grape Water for a dewy hue.”
